The First 100 Years”, Gerry Lee and the Wanted Men are back with a complete album.
Traveling through times and styles, they tip the hat to all the decades of non - afro - american music, but without the usual cheap tricks. Probably it would have been the easiest way to cover some good old songs, but when you think that Gerry Lee and his Wanted Men would use such a simple way to convince their audience, you´re on the wrong way!!!
Twelve songs out of fifteen are written by themselves. The songwriting, and a tremandous arrangement should convince everybody! That´s the deal!
You may find references to the early 60´s Honky - Tonk in a ´Buck Owens style` (“Heartaches, Teardrops & Loneliness” ), or some ´Hank Williams like Crooners` ( “ No good old times” ), combined with some 30´s Western Swing and 80´s Countrypunk, the guys are going to take you on a musical journey through the long history of american music, that you´re not going to forget! And by the way, ´LISTEN TO THE LYRICS´!!! They diserve it!
Wordplay, some old jokes and some serious looks on life.
So all in all : this album is like a ´two - way - street`. One way is leading you to the past, the other way lead´s you to the next party, ´cause:
If the Wanted Men can´t make you swing, you´re already dead!!!
